Mayor Santos and the North Hudson Community Action Corporation Invite Residents to a Career Fair on June 27

Mayor Alberto G. Santos is pleased to announce that on June 27, 2012 the Town of Kearny in cooperation with North Hudson Community Action Corporation (NHCAC) will hold a job fair for area residents. The job fair will be held in the Kearny Main Library, 318 Kearny Avenue, on the lower level from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Representatives from about 20 businesses and government agencies will be present to discuss career opportunities and accept resumes from attendees. Among the companies scheduled to participate are TD Bank, Dish Network, EZ Ride, Valley National Bank, NJ Transit and Home Depot.

The Town of Kearny is fortunate to have the assistance and expertise of Ms. Olga Velez from NHCAC to coordinate the event. Past career fairs hosted by NHCAC in other communities have drawn dozens of employers and hundreds of applicants for the positions available. More importantly, many positions have been offered to prospective employees.

In preparation for the job fair, the Kearny Library staff under the direction of Josh Humphrey, Library Director, will offer a resume writing workshop on June 19th at 2:00 pm in the Main Library to assist residents in putting together the best resume possible. The workshop will demonstrate the use of “Job & Career Accelerator,” an online site provided by the New Jersey State Library. With this resource, which can be accessed from the Databases link on the Library’s website on a home computer or on one of the Library’s public computers, job searchers can do the following: create professional cover letters and resumes; practice and master interviewing skills; explore over 1,000 different occupations; search more than five million job postings; and organize job search progress.

“I’m very excited to bring this Career Fair to Kearny for our residents,” said Mayor Santos. “Now, we have to get the word out to the people in our community who need help in finding work or putting together a resume so they can take advantage of the resources that will be available at the job fair and the Library.”
