STEEL MAGNOLIAS Opens At W.H.A.T. Performances Begin April 4th

STEEL MAGNOLIAS Opens At W.H.A.T. Performances Begin April 4th

04/04/2014 - 7:30pm

WEST HUDSON, NJ -- The West Hudson Arts & Theater Company (W.H.A.T.) production of the classic comedy-drama Steel Magnolias opens for a two-weekend run starting April 4. Set in a small town beauty salon in Louisiana, the play tells the story of six remarkable women who sustain one another during the best and worst times of their lives. Written by Robert Harling as a tribute to his sister, the play was later adapted into the immensely popular all-star film.

Performances are Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday April 5 at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the W.H.A.T. Theater, 131 Midland Avenue, Kearny, NJ.

Steel Magnolias is a quintessential story of friendship and trust. “The audience will be laughing through their tears,” said W.H.A.T. Artistic Director Joe Ferriero.  “Our immensely talented cast brings the richness of these very different and iron-strong women to the stage as they share the true meaning of family and friendship through their tetchy, touching, sometimes backbiting, yet often hilarious dialogue,” he added.

Directing for the first time with W.H.A.T. is Beatriz Esteban-Messina. The cast includes: Marilyn Schilkie (Ouser Boudreaux), Celeste Fasone (Clairee Belcher), Lisa Dascoli  (M’Lynn Eatenton), Francesca Stokes (Truvy Jones), Danielle Petrucelli (Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie), and Michelle Thomas-Hanson (Annelle Dupup-Desoto).

Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors and students. Tickets for all performances are available online at www.whatco.org or by calling 201-467-8624.  Tickets are also available at the Angry Coffee Bean Café, 89 Ridge Road, North Arlington. Also available at the theater 30 minutes before each performance (cash or check only).

THIS PROGRAM IS MADE POSSIBLE IN PART BY FUNDS FROM THE NEW JERSEY STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS/DEPARTMENT OF STATE, A PARTNER AGENCY OF THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS, ADMINISTERED BY THE HUDSON COUNTY OFFICE OF CULTURAL @ HERITAGE AFFAIRS, THOMAS A. DEGISE, COUNTY EXECUTIVE, AND THE BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS.
